Firestorm Caen: Turn 3

In today's post you will find all of the details for the six games that will be played for turn 3 of the Firestorm: Caen online campaign. So far, players from 3 continents have played 103 games. To date, the Allied forces have made gains in the Southern part of the map and are hemmed in on Sword and Juno Beach in the North. This turn sees both Axis and Allied forces attacking three times. Who will win the day and gain a massive advantage in the struggle for control of the land around Caen?

Turn 2b saw a big push back from the Axis forces. The German's managed to recapture Breville and pushed the Allies back to Juno Beach. This turn the Allies desparately need to expand their beachheads or they risk being unable to land more Firestorm troops and may find themselves unable to capture Caen by the end of Turn 5. You can see a recap of Turn 2 here.

This turn is the beginning of Operation Epsom. Operation Epsom was the British offensive in Normandy from June 26-30, 1944. The initial aim of the offensive was to outflank and capture Caen. The Allied forces attacked to cross the Odon River. Unfortunately, our own Allied forces have stalled out in their advances off of Juno Beach and are behind their historical counterparts. Nevertheless, Allied command has launched an offensive to capture the key areas South of Caen. Meanwhile, German reinforcements are pouring into Normandy and have massed for their own offensives to surround and isolate the Allied forces.

Turn 3 results should be emailed to me by Monday, December 21st.

  1. Hi Cameron,

Could you explain what did you mean with "fortune favors the bold, no 3-3s!!!". Does it mean that in a case of a draw dice is rolled to decide the winner?

    Cheers

    1. No, I just rolled up encounter as the mission. It often ends in a 3-3 draw at tournaments. It was simply meant as an encouragement to play for the win, not just to deny points to your opponent.

Encounter is personally my least favorite mission for that reason. If played aggressively by both players it can be fun though.

    2. I'll delete that line to avoid confusion.

    3. I totally agree with you. To me, it is the worst mission of all. I always play it aggressively and attack my opponent mercifully. But at the end of the day I am the looser who count casualties.
Same thing happened last Saturday when I lost just because I wanted to play not to sit tight and do nothing whole afternoon.
Option with a dice roll could be encouraging for players to fight, not to sit in their trenches ;)

  3. Woo! Finally submitted our game results Before the very end of the deadline! So far the Germans in our little group have been faring far better against the Paratroopers in the East than they have against the so-far undefeated Scots pouring off Juno beach in the center.

    1. Overall it is pretty close after 20 battles in total. Allies need some wins so they aren't hemmed in!!!

  4. Why is it impossible to view this post? It won't open the entire entry, and clicking on the 'read more' gets you nowhere.
